PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cool a storage vessel with high energy efficiency without uselessly discharging gas helium stored in cooling, when cooling the storage vessel, particularly, a portable storage vessel for a very low temperature fluid. SOLUTION: (a) The storage vessel S of a cooling object is directly or indirectly joined to cooling circulating passages 2-8, V, T, a and a', and (b) a cooling fluid similar to or dissimilar from fluid stored in the storage vessel of the cooling object is circulated in the cooling circulating passages, and (c) the cooling fluid is compressed (V) and cooled (E) in the cooling circulating passages, and is expanded (T) so as to generate the very low temperature, and (d) a partial flow 5 and 7 of at least a part of the cooling fluid after the expansion is used for cooling the storage vessel S of the cooling object.
