The present invention relates generally to the field of phosphatidylinositol based signaling pathways, and more specifically to the use of novel members of these pathways for disease prognosis and treatment. In some aspects, the present invention relates to the use of novel splice variants of type I phosphatidylinositol phosphate kinase gamma, named PIPKIgamma 700 and PIPKIgamma 707, to determine breast cancer and breast cancer prognosis.
