The line generator (16) comprises a light source and an optical system (26) that are arranged for releasing a light beam (18) in a radiation plane and received in a housing that is equipped with a discharge opening for light beam. The housing is assigned an air-conducting device for releasing a gas flow and has an outlet opening. The middle axis of the outlet opening is directed parallel to the radiation plane of the light beam. The outlet opening is formed as outlet slit and is arranged for the gas flow on the same front area of the housing like the discharge opening for the light beam.
