<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce luminance the unevenness of an image in a liquid crystal display device that can display by performing switching between an image on a liquid crystal display panel and a specific image placed at the back of the liquid crystal display panel. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal shutter 50 is placed at the back of the liquid crystal display panel comprising a TFT substrate 11 and a counter substrate 12, and a specific image 40 is placed at the back of the liquid crystal shutter 50. When the liquid crystal shutter 50 is opened, the specific image 40 is displayed, and when the liquid crystal shutter 50 is closed, an image on the liquid crystal display panel is displayed. An LED 20 as a light source is placed on a side, and the distribution of exiting light from the LED 20 shows peaks in two directions.
