<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal medium which has suitable properties for practical applications such as wide nematic phase ranges, suitable optical anisotropyΔn corresponding to the type of a display used, highΔε, and particularly low viscosity for a particularly short response time. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal medium contains, for example: a component A which is a dielectrically positive component containing a dielectrically positive compound of the formula IA-2d; a component B as an optional component, which is the second dielectrically positive component containing one or more dielectrically positive compounds with a dielectric anisotropy of greater than 3; and a component C as an optional component, which is a dielectrically neutral component.
