PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of extracting transducer position information from bit patterned magnetic media. SOLUTION: A step of extracting transducer position information from bit patterned magnetic media includes a step of providing a magnetic storage medium having at least one data array with multiple discrete and separated recording bits and a step of providing the transducer adjacent to the data array. A readback signal dependent on the multiple recording bits is generated with the transducer. A step of determining the transducer position information further includes a step of generating at least a first position signal and a second position signal from the readback signal.
