PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate handling for a narrow installation location where a shock absorber can not be installed directly. SOLUTION: This adapter is provided with: an adapter cylinder 9 equipped with an input-side cylinder part 17 installed in an installation location, and an output-side cylinder part 19 provided with a mounting part 29 for mounting a shock absorber 3 thereon; input-side and output-side pressure chamber 27 and 37 having large and small diameters different from each other, formed in the input-side and output-side cylinder parts 17 and 19, respectively, communicating with each other, and filled with a working fluid; an adapter piston 11 housed in the large-diameter input-side pressure chamber 27; and an adapter piston rod 13 moving by receiving external force to operatively connect the adapter piston 11. The shock absorber 3 mounted on the mounting part 29 can be operated by receiving fluid pressure in the small-diameter output-side pressure chamber 37 in response to the movement of the adapter piston 11.
