PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension adjustment device of a chain which makes possible easy attachment to an engine block, and which does not break down at the time of removal from the engine block. SOLUTION: The tension adjustment device of the chain 1 has a cylinder 7, a plunger 8, and a chain guide 9. The cylinder 7 is fixed to the engine block A, and the plunger 8 is energized in the direction projected from the cylinder 7. The chain guide 9 is pressed by a projected end from the cylinder 7 of the plunger 8, and the chain 6 is pressed by the chain guide 9. The chain guide 9 is supported by a pivot shaft 20 so that it can swing, and an arc-like oval hole 21 is formed in the chain guide 9. Then a round hole 22 into which a pin 23 engaged with the oval hole 21 can be inserted is formed in a guide support piece 19, and the range of swinging of the chain guide 9 is regulated by the engagement between the pin 23 inserted to the round hole 22 and the oval hole 21.
