<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool having a hard coating layer exhibiting excellent chipping resistance in high-speed heavy cutting. <P>SOLUTION: The surface coated cutting tool has: a lower layer comprising an adhesive Ti compound layer and a reformed TiCN layer; and an upper layer comprising a reformedα-type aluminum oxide layer, which are formed by vapor deposition on a surface of a tool substrate. When the lower layer comprising the adhesive Ti compound layer or reformed TiCN layer existing adjacent to the upper layer, and the upper layer comprising the reformedα-type aluminum oxide layer are each measured as to the number and positions ofΣ3 correspondence grain boundaries, lower-layerΣ3 correspondence grain boundaries amounting to 30 to 70% of the lower-layerΣ3 correspondence grain boundaries existing in an upper-layer to lower-layer interface of the adhesive Ti compound layer or reformed TiCN layer existing adjacent to the upper layer form grain boundaries, continue with upper-layerΣ3 coincidence grain boundaries. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
