PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve excellent control of charging of toner particles. SOLUTION: The toner includes toner particles containing a latex, a coloring agent and, optionally, a wax; and a charge controller including a polymer-ion complex containing an ion selected from the group consisting of metal ions and nonmetal ions together with a polymer ligand having an average molecular weight of about 2000 to about 200000, the polymer ligand containing an acid selected from the group consisting of: salicylic acid, naphthoic acid, dicarboxylic acid, sulfonic acid, phosphoric acid and combinations thereof together with a second component selected from the group consisting of: aldehydes, amino compounds, halogenated compounds, phosphine compounds, hydroxyl compounds, diketone compounds, and combinations thereof.
