PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that suppresses damages of an image holder and of an intermediate transfer body as well as suppresses image defects by suppressing sticking of a contaminant on the surface of the image holder and improving sliding property at a contact part between the image holder and the intermediate transfer body. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a photoreceptor 10 (image holder), a charging device 14 (charging means), an exposure device 16 (electrostatic latent image forming means), a developing device 18 (developing means), an intermediate transfer belt 12 (intermediate transfer body), a primary transfer roll 20 (primary transfer means), and a secondary transfer roll 26 (secondary transfer means), in which at a contact portion 11, a speed difference is set between the moving speed of the photoreceptor 10 and the moving speed of the intermediate transfer belt 12, and a toner included in a developer housed in the developing device 18 (developing means) includes toner particles and spherical particles having a number average particle diameter of 50 nm to 300 nm, with an isolation rate of the spherical particles ranging from 5 vol.% to 40 vol.%.
