<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which can detect a jam, without causing the delay of the detection of the jam and degrading printing quality and which is simply structured; and to provide an image forming apparatus provided with the same. <P>SOLUTION: The lever 31 of a sheet detecting means 30 can be arranged in the vicinity of a nip N between a heating-rotation means 21 and a pressure-rotation means 22, so that the delay of the detection of the jam is never caused. A rotation roller 42 attached to the top end of the lever 31 comes into roll-contact with the rear face 2b of a sheet 2, to prevent the lever 31 from rubbing against the rear face 2b of the sheet 2, so that even when a toner image is printed on the rear face 2b of the sheet 2 by both-side printing, the toner image is never scraped by the lever 31.
