PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare gas fluorescent lamp having light distribution characteristics where intensity of light emitted from an end in a tube axis direction is set higher than that of light emitted from a center part in the tube axis direction without increasing cost. SOLUTION: The rare gas fluorescent lamp is structured such that a phosphor layer is formed on the inside surface of an arc tube; a rare gas is filled therein; a pair of electrodes extending in the tube axis direction by being spaced apart from each other are arranged on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube; and an aperture for emitting light to the outside is formed in the tube axis direction of the arc tube; and is characterized by arranging a dimming part in a part excluding both ends in the tube axis direction of the aperture independently of the electrodes.
