PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multicolor image forming apparatus which does not impair productivity when carrying out marginless printing. SOLUTION: Reverse-transfer efficiency TR1 by which toner P1 transferred on transfer material P by a transfer means 3 on an upstream side in the conveyance direction of the transfer material P of a transfer material conveying means 1 causes toner P2 back-transferred onto an image carrier 11 by a transfer means 3 on the downstream side, and reverse transfer efficiency TR2 by which toner E1 protruded from the transfer material P in the transfer means 3 on the upstream side and transferred on the transfer material conveying means 1 causes toner E2 back-transferred onto the image carrier 11 by the transfer means 3 on the downstream side satisfy a relationship of TR1<TR2.
