摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To collect magnetic particles adhering to a surface of an image carrier at such an excellent collection rate that trouble is not caused in a developing process or the like. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a mode in which bias different from that when charging the surface of the image carrier is applied to a magnetic particle carrying member of a magnetic brush charging device (3) charging the image carrier (1), to make the magnetic particles of a magnetic brush adhere to the surface of the image carrier, and collect it by magnetic force in a non-contact state by a magnetic particle collection means (8) disposed on a more downstream side in a moving direction of the surface of the image carrier than the charging device (3). The mode includes a step for stopping movement of the surface of the image carrier before an area to which the magnetic particles for charging adhere on the surface of the image carrier reaches a collection position (g) of the magnetic particle collection means (8) owing to the movement of the surface of the image carrier, and a step for collecting the magnetic particles adhering to the surface of the image carrier by the collection means (8) when the surface of the image carrier moves after predetermined time elapses after stopping the movement of the surface of the image carrier.
