The method involves moving a body component (2) by an electrical drive (3), and detecting a signal based on sensors (4) arranged at an operating element (5) and/or in a surrounding area. The electrical drive is controlled by a control unit (SE) based on the signal such that the body component is moved between an open position and a closed position or into an intermediate position. A force acting on the operating element and/or contact to the operating element and/or the body component is detected based on one of the sensors. The sensor is designed as a force sensor or a capacitive sensor, a speed sensor, an acceleration sensor and an ultrasound sensor or a distance sensor. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for assisting operation of a body component.
