PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress flapping noise of a chain at start after stop of an engine for a long time in a vehicle having a hydraulic chain tensioner. SOLUTION: A period while the engine is stopped is referred to, and as the period is longer, target engine speed immediately after start of the engine is set higher. Thus, the engine driving a pump is rotated at high speed, and working fluid for pressing a plunger can be promptly supplied. As a result, immediately after start, appropriate tension can be applied to the chain, and time while flapping noise may be generated can be minimized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
