PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system for a passenger conveyor equipped with LEDs capable of securing excellent waterproofing and heat radiating performance. SOLUTION: The passenger conveyor whereto the lighting system is applied is equipped with treads 1 to transport passengers, a floor 2 arranged in the advancing direction of the treads 1, a get-on/get-off part 3 arranged at the boundary between the floor 2 and treads 1, skirts 4 provided on both the sides of the treads 1 and the get-on/get-off part 3, openings 5 formed in the skirts 4 in such a manner as held at a certain distance from the floor 2, and a shutoff plate 6 allowing the light to penetrate which is arranged, for example in such a way as covering each opening 5 from the counter-tread side, wherein the configuration further includes an L-plate 7 formed from a material having a high heat radiating property and installed in a position over the opening 5 on the counter-tread side of each skirt 4 in such a fashion as inclined with respect to a horizontal plane, an LED illumination part 8 abutted to the bottom of the plate 7, and a drive part 9 secured to the bottom of the plate 7 for the LED illumination part 8 to light up.
