PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light rolling reduction method for a slab which can surely suppress central segregation. SOLUTION: When a molten steel for a steel wire lying in a prescribed range is poured into a mold at a molten steel superheating degree of 10 to 45[°C], is subjected to electromagnetic stirring in the mold at a strength of 50,000 to 500,000[Gauss<SP>2</SP>/sec], and, while being cooled at a specific water content of 0.25 to 1.0[l/kg] in a secondary cooling zone, is continuously cast at a casting rate of 0.50 to 0.65[m/min], so as to produce a slab with a thickness of 350 to 410[mm], light rolling reduction is performed by two or more roll pairs. Then, provided that the casting direction distance is defined as X[m], the rolling reduction rate is defined as R[mm/min], and a standard distance calculated based on the superheating degree of the molten steel, the specific water content, the electromagnetic stirring strength in the mold, the casting rate, the thickness of the slab, a carbon content or the like is defined as S[m], 0≤R≤1.0 is set in the section of 0.67×S≤X<S, 1.2≤R≤1.8 is set in the section of S≤X<1.16×S, and 0.4≤R≤1.5 is set in the section of 1.16×S≤X<1.23×S.
