PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate image data for a suitable identification photograph. SOLUTION: When taking the identification photograph by a digital camera 1 as an image photographing apparatus, form data based on an inputted type of the identification photograph are selected from among form data stored in a built-in storage unit (not shown in the figure) and on the basis of a focal distance depending on auto-focusing, optical zoom adjustment is performed on a lens optical system including a photographing lens 2. The selected form data are displayed on a display image 13 together with a through-the-lens image, and a person meeting the relevant form data is photographed, thereby generating image data for the identification photograph.
