PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auto-emulsifying type isocyanate compound forming a stable micelle independently of emulsification temperature. SOLUTION: The auto-emulsifying type isocyanate compound is produced by reacting an organic polyisocyanate compound with an imidazolium salt represented by general formula (1), wherein R<SP>1</SP>signifies a 4-12C hydrocarbyl group or the like; R<SP>2</SP>signifies a 1-12C hydrocarbyl group or the like; R<SP>3</SP>signifies a 1-18C hydrocarbyl group which is substituted with a hydroxy group, or the like; R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>signify a hydrogen atom, a 1-18C hydrocarbyl group or the like; and X<SP>-</SP>signifies Cl<SP>-</SP>, Br<SP>-</SP>or the like.
