PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which effectively uses an automatic cassette change function such that presence or absence of the automatic cassette change function can be set for each paper feed cassette stage and can be selected by a user. SOLUTION: When a start key 125 of a control panel 120 is depressed in order to start copying, a main CPU 100 determines the presence or absence of the automatic cassette change function based on a value of an adjustment code stored in a nonvolatile section 104a of an RAM 104, when paper runs out during a copying operation, a cassette is switched so as to correspond to the adjustment code, or performs display indicating that the paper runs out on a message display part 121.
