A method for controlling the operation of a portable terminal including a touch screen is provided to scroll a file list displayed by a touch input and a touch flick input, efficiently. A file list is displayed on a touch screen(S200). A touch signal for showing one item which is touched on the file list is received(S205). In case the other touch signal is inputted through the touch screen, the selected item is fixed to the file list(S210). The rest items are scrolled in the file list(S215).
