<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more properly respond to a failure of an electric storage device, in a power output device having the electric storage device exchanging electric power with electric motors to input/output power to a driving axle or a power generator connected to an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: When the number of start-up operations n during stop is less than a threshold value nref when a failure occurs in a battery during engine stop (S130, S140), the engine is started (S150), a system main relay is turned off to cut off the battery from an inverter for driving two motors (S170), and the engine and the two motors are controlled such that required torque Tr* is output to the driving axle (S180-S230).
