PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of using subject information detected by a subject detecting means even for an image formed by performing image processing, such as trimming, resizing, color conversion and lightness correction on an image after photography, and then performing compression again and recording. SOLUTION: The subject is detected based upon feature information of an image (step S418) and then image processing associated with variation of the feature information is performed on the image (steps S419 to S421). Information associated with the subject detected before the image processing is related to the image after the image processing and recorded in a storage medium (step S422). Consequently, even if subject information can not be detected in the image after the image processing under an effect of deterioration of the image data, processing such as red-eye correction can be performed using the subject information.
