PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy converter capable of realizing stable operation in a nonoverload state at normal operation time and sufficiently reducing output power in an overload state to achieve an ideal overload protection characteristic, and a semiconductor device and a switch control method for the energy converter. SOLUTION: In an overload state, overload protection is carried out to reduce the minimum of on-period of a switching element 1, thereby shortening an on-period of the switching element 1 or lowering a peak value of switching current.
