PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and equipment whereby the phase of a complex number corresponding to an input signal can be determined without performing access to any arc-tangent reference table. SOLUTION: The method determines the phase of the complex number corresponding to an input signal. The method comprises a step for normalizing the complex number in order to obtain a normalized complex number, a step for processing the normalized complex number through a closed loop so as to generate a signal proportional to the phase of the complex number, and a step for determining the phase of the complex number from the signal proportional to the phase of the complex number.
