PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent facsimile data corresponding to an image of an original left on a platen from erroneously being transmitted, with respect to a facsimile machine that carries out operations for not only reading an original left on the platen to be transmitted but also reading the image thereof to be transmitted while automatically carrying the original. SOLUTION: If a transmission key is pressed down when transmitting the facsimile data (S13: Y), it is judged whether or not the original is on ADF (S14). If the original is thereon (S14: Y), the transmission thereof is carried out by ADF to be completed (S15-S17). If the original is not on the ADF (S14: N), the processing is transferred to the foregoing S14 without transmitting the facsimile data, even if a request for notification to set the original that indicates a message for requesting the ADF to set the original is processed (S18) and the original is left on the ADF.
