PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately detect a risk area indicating an area, in which an unavoidable obstacle exists, to preferentially detect the obstacle. SOLUTION: In an obstacle detecting device, a preferential area setting part sets a preferential area, to which obstacle detection is preferentially made, in a detection object area when an obstacle detecting part searches the prescribed detection object area existing in front to detect an obstacle, and a detection instructing part instructs the obstacle detecting part to execute searching concerning the preferential area more preferentially than searching concerning a normal area which is an area except the preferential area.
