PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining compatibility of a starch used for sustained-release tablet composition in an orally deliverable tablet form, and to provide a method for producing tablet. SOLUTION: Provided is the sustained-release composition comprises an active pharmaceutical agent having solubility not less than about 10 mg/ml, dispersed in a matrix comprising a hydrophilic polymer, a starch having a tensile strength of at least about 0.15 kNcm<SP>-2</SP>at a solid fraction representative of the tablet, wherein the compatibility of the starch is determined in the method estimating the tensile strength.
