PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a useful synthetic intermediate of phosphinobinaphthyl which is a ligand for a transition metal catalyst useful for an asymmetric synthesis reaction. SOLUTION: Provided is the phosphine-borane complex, or a salt thereof, represented by the formula, [in the formula, R<SP>3'</SP>, R<SP>5'</SP>, R<SP>6'</SP>, and R<SP>8'</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a lower alkoxy group, R<SP>4'</SP>and R<SP>7'</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, a chlorine atom, a 2-6C alkyl group, a lower alkoxy group, a mono-lower alkylamino group or a di-lower alkyl amino group, (wherein R<SP>3'</SP>with R<SP>4'</SP>and R<SP>7'</SP>with R<SP>8'</SP>together may form a lower alkylenedioxy group)].
