PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preferentially producing a 3-(2-cyano-1-propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid compound wherein the relative configuration of the carbon-carbon double bond on the substituent at the 3-site of the cyclopropane ring is Z configuration. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method for producing a 3-(2-cyano-1-propenyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid compound expressed by formula (VI) (in the formula, R is a 1-10C chain hydrocarbon group which may be substituted with one or more groups selected from the following group A, a 3-10C cyclic hydrocarbon group or a hydrogen atom: the group A; a halogen atom, a 2-7C acyl group which may be substituted, a 1-7C alkoxy group which may be substituted, a 1-3C alkylthio group, or a phenyl group which may be substituted) by reacting an acyloxycyclopropane compound with an alkali metal borohydride compound in the presence of a solvent.
