A voltage generating apparatus of semiconductor IC and a control method thereof are provided to implement the normal operation of internal logic circuits by preventing the drop of the power supply voltage. A voltage generating apparatus of semiconductor IC comprises charge pumps(101 to 106, 111 to 114), a pump control part(120) and a deactivation pump setting unit(150). A charge pump is deactivated regardless of the pump control signal by selectively corresponds to the pump deactivated signal(VPP_OFF). A pump control part generates the pump control signal(VPP_CONTROL) to operate the charge pumps. The deactivation pump setting unit generates the pump deactivated signal by corresponding to the test signal.
