A system and a method for relighting an image using ratio optimization of a spherical harmonics coefficient are provided to quickly express an object to which area illumination is applied by using a reflection light environment map according to a spherical harmonics coefficient. A data group generating unit(101) illuminates along with a preset lighting direction to generate a reference data group about at least one reference image. A lighting direction estimating unit(102) estimates a light direction of a target image by using the generated reference data group. A relighting performing unit(103) relights a source image by using the estimated light direction. The reference data group is generated by determining a spherical harmonics coefficient of at least one reference image according to the preset lighting direction on a three dimensional space.
