摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce unnatural variation in brightness when the display load is varied, and to realize a stable power control so that the power consumption does not suddenly rise. <P>SOLUTION: The amount of light emission which is made to correspond to each gradation is changed for gradation display, according to the variation in display load, so that the power consumption does not exceed a preset value, in which the amount of changing the amount of light emission is increased/decreased, according to the magnitude of the variation rate of the display load. When the variation in the display load is slow, the amount of light emission is slightly changed. In this case, the power control slowly complies with the variation in the display load. In contrast, when the variation in the display load is rapid, the amount of light emission is greatly changed.
