The method involves controlling/regulating moisture cross-section by application of applicant e.g. liquid and/or liquid/gas mixture. The moisture cross-section is held constant by difference of end moisture content from a predefined target value. Moisture profile of a material web (M) is controlled/regulated as a correcting variable in a machine direction (MD). The end moisture content is controlled/regulated in a region of a winding device (17), which is arranged downstream a drying part (15). The moisture cross-section and the moisture profile are adjusted in the machine direction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for treatment of a material web (2) a machine for manufacturing a material web e.g. paper web, cardboard web and tissue web, including a drying part.
