The use of special mixed oxides of iron and other metals as sensitive material in thin layers for the bolometric detection of infrared radiation. The use, as a sensitive material in thin layers for the bolometric detection of infrared (IR) radiation, of material with the composition (Fe 1-zM z) xO (I) (not including any dopants), in which the metals or the oxygen are in the form of ions. Fe : iron(II) or iron(III) cations; M : metal cations other than iron; z : the number of cations of type M; and x : less than 1 and more than 0.75. Independent claims are also included for (1) a bolometric device for IR detection or imaging, comprising a pick-up with a sensitive element in the form of a thin layer as above (2) a method for IR detection or imaging with the aid of a bolometric detector capable of absorbing incident radiation, converting it into heat and communicating some of the heat to a sensitive element as above showing temperature-dependent resistivity. |
