The transmission type liquid crystal display device of this invention includes: gate lines (22); source lines (23); and switching elements (24) each arranged near a crossing of each gate line (22) and each source line (23), a gate electrode of each switching element (24) being connected to the gate line (22), a source electrode of the switching element (24) being connected to the source line (23), and a drain electrode of the switching element (24) being connected to a pixel electrode (21) for applying a voltage to a liquid crystal layer, wherein an interlayer insulating film formed of an organic film with high transparency is provided above the switching element (24), the gate line (22), and the source line (23), and wherein the pixel electrode (21) formed of a transparent conductive film is provided on the interlayer insulating film. In one case, a contact hole (26a) is formed above the light-shading gate line (22).
