An apparatus and a method for controlling optical power of an optical disc device to record data are provided to improve data recording quality efficiently by applying an erase/write ratio suitable for the natural characteristic of an optical disk. A method for controlling optical power of an optical disc device to record data is as follows. A first OPC(Optical Power Calibration) is executed, adapting the preset erase/write ratio, so that an optimum optical power value is calculated. A second OPC is executed, varying the erase/write ratio within the range of the optimum optical power value, so that the optimum erase/write ratio is determined. Data recording is performed. |
