A magnetic recording medium and a magnetic recording apparatus are provided to improve coercive force in the servo region by forming the area of magnetic dots in the servo region smaller than the magnetism segment in the data region. A magnetic recording medium comprises a data region(11) and a servo region(12). The data region includes a plurality of magnetic dots(41) which are arranged in the specific locations of the substrate in order to record information. The servo region comprises a plurality of magnetic segments(45) which are smaller than the magnetic dots and arranged in the specific locations of the substrate in order to specify the location of the magnetic dots.
