Compression space (18) of an ultrasonic welding device for welding metal conductors together to form a joint comprises the working surface (36) of a sonotrode (16) and the working surface of a counterelectrode (32) on opposite sides of the compression space and lateral surfaces (44, 46) transverse to the working surfaces. The working surfaces and at least one of the lateral surfaces are structured. An independent claim is also included for a tool in the form of a slide (42) or counterelectrode carrier (34) for an ultrasonic welding device as above.
