PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dot matrix type display device which suppresses an increase in power consumption, has shortened rewriting time and includes a display material layer having a memory property. SOLUTION: The dot matrix type display device includes: a plurality of first lines and a plurality of second lines which intersect each other in an opposite state; a display material layer 12 having a memory property; and driving circuits 28, 29 which apply a scan pulse while selecting successively one side of the plurality of first lines and the plurality of second lines, apply a data pulse to the other side in synchronism with the scan pulse and write an image into the display material layer, wherein the driving circuits detect a non-change line having no change between images before writing and after writing, performs skipping operation of selection of the non-change line and, when the skipping operation satisfies prescribed conditions, make an applied voltage of the line to be skipped lower than the applied voltages of other lines.
