PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform generation of a path-composition image with a high responsiveness and stability. SOLUTION: A background pixel selecting unit 130 selects m (m≤n) pixel values centering one (image Itto be processed) of input images I1-Inheld in an input image holding unit 110. A background estimating unit 140 estimates a background value of each pixel position of the image Itto be processed based on the selected pixel values. A background updating unit 210 updates a background update value held in a background update value holding unit 221 based on the estimated background value. A difference level generating unit 160 generates a difference level between the pixel value of each pixel position of the image Itto be processed and the background update value. A path composition unit 170 generates a composition ratio based on the difference level and composites the image Itto be processed at the time t and the path composition result at the time t-1 held in the path composition result holding unit 180 by the composition ratio to generate a path composition result at the time t.
