A MATERIALS HANDLING VEHICLE HAVING A STEER SYSTEM INCLUDING A TACTILE FEEDBACK DEVICE

A materials handling vehicle (10) is provided comprising a frame comprising an operator's compartment (30), wheels supported on the frame, at least one of the wheels being a steerable wheel (74), and a steer-by-wire system associated with the steerable wheel to effect angular movement of the steerable wheel. The vehicle further comprises a control apparatus. Steer-by-wire system comprises a control handle(90), a tactile feedback device(lOO) and a steer motor(120). Control apparatus is configured to increase tactile feedback device signal in response to an operator entering operator's compartment in order to inhibit an operator from making a quick turn request via a control handle. Depending on whether an operator is located within or outside operator' s compartment the steerable wheel can be moved to the different corresponding angular ranges.
