PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously obtain good fuel consumption and good drivability during decelerating operation. SOLUTION: At the time of fuel cut during the decelerating operation, a rapid deceleration of the engine speed is prevented by controlling an amount of slip of a lock-up clutch, and every time when the engine speed is lowered to a down shift determination value set to the higher rotation side than the fuel cut return rotation speed, the engine speed is kept in a fuel cut region by down-shifting a transmission gear mechanism. Furthermore, when the turbine rotation speed starts increasing by the down shift, engine brake correction control suppressing increase of engine brake force by increasing intake-air volume is executed so that the deceleration degree of the engine rotation speed after the down shift may not become excessive. Additionally, when the accelerator opening degree is increased from a full closing condition during an execution of this engine brake correction control, the engine brake correction control is stopped, and in a certain period after that, a torque increase suppression control suppressing an increase of the engine torque is executed.
