Disclosed is a dielectric ceramic having crystal grains and crystal grain boundaries, which contains BaTiO3 as a main component. Crystal orientations in a crystal grain are in the same direction within the crystal grain. A part of Ba is preferably substituted by Ca or Sr, and a part of Ti is preferably substituted by Zr or Hf. Consequently, the dielectric ceramic has high dielectric constant and good AC electric field characteristics, and experiences only a small change in dielectric constant even when the electric field applied thereto is changed.
