<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell having small and simple construction for highly accurate and highly responsive fuel shut-off operation. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell comprises a generation part having membrane electrode assembly consisting of a cathode, an anode, and an electrolyte membrane held between the cathode and the anode, a fuel supply mechanism arranged on the side of the anode of the membrane electrode assembly for supplying fuel to the anode, and a fuel storage part 50 connected to the fuel supply mechanism via fuel supply flow paths 42, 43, 51 for storing the fuel. Herein, a pressure medium storage tank 45 is provided for heat exchange with the generation part and communicated with the fuel supply flow paths for storing volatile pressure medium having higher vapor pressure than the fuel in the fuel storage part, and a fuel flow path shut-off mechanism 40 is provided for receiving a pressure in the pressure medium storage tank when the pressure of the volatile pressure medium evaporated by reaction heat generated in the generation part rises, to shut off the fuel supply flow paths. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
