Disclosed are: a core-shell type cobalt oxide microparticle or a dispersion containing the microparticle; a process for producing the microparticle or the dispersion; and use of the microparticle or the dispersion. Specifically disclosed are: a core-shell type cobalt oxide microparticle having an average particle diameter of 50 to 200 nm, wherein a secondary particle that forms a core part has a spherical shape and an organic polymer is adhered on the surface of the core part to form a shell part; a dispersion of the cobalt oxide microparticle; a dried powder of the dispersion of the cobalt oxide microparticle; a process for producing a core-shell type cobalt oxide microparticle or a dispersion of the microparticle, which comprises a step of mixing a cobalt salt and an organic polymer with an organic solvent to produce a mixture and a step of heating/refluxing the mixture at a predetermined temperature to cause the precipitation of the core-shell type cobalt oxide microparticle, wherein the cobalt salt is cobalt acetate; and use of the microparticle or the dispersion.
