<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new label printer, in which no operation of key buttons is necessary for changing the printing format to a tape-like film from vertical writing to lateral writing or from lateral writing to vertical writing. <P>SOLUTION: In the label printer 1, an input image plane displayed on a liquid crystal display (LCD) 3 is different between the condition that a body 2 lies sidewise and lengthwise. On the input image plane under the condition that the body 2 lies sidewise, a printing image is displayed on the LCD 3 in a lateral writing printing format, in which characters or the like are arranged side by side onto a printing tape 31 towards its longitudinal direction. On the input image plane under the condition that the body 2 lies lengthwise, the printing image is displayed on the LCD 3 in a vertical wiring printing format, in which characters or the like are vertically arranged onto the printing tape 31 towards its longitudinal direction. When a user touches, through a touching panel 4, a thing corresponding to a printing button among operating buttons 41 displayed on the LCD 3, the printing tape 31 is printed just as a printing image displayed on the LCD 3.
