PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve space saving of a cleaning mechanism and an image forming apparatus with the cleaning mechanism by reducing the number of parts of the cleaning mechanism provided for cleaning an intermediate transfer belt. SOLUTION: The transfer unit includes the intermediate transfer belt 20 stretched in an endless travelable manner between a plurality of rollers and allowing a toner image of an image carrier carried according to image information, to be transferred to the surface; a bending roller 30 with its peripheral surface pressed to the surface side of the intermediate transfer belt 20 to bend inward the intermediate transfer belt 20 while being stretched in the endless travelable manner between the plurality of rollers; a first blade 62 cleaning the peripheral surface of the bending roller 30; a surface side cleaning mechanism 67; and a recovery screw 66 recovering foreign matters removed by both members which are the first blade 62 and the surface side cleaning mechanism 67.
